By high school, he had his SAG card and was well on his way to a career in film and TV. Today, he's a noted writer, producer and director and instructor. Not bad for a kid from "Dangerous Minds" territory.

Actually the title’s really misleading (I just needed a “hook”).

Actor, writer, producer and director Hilliard Guess appeared on my radio show “Livin’ the Dream! with JBlair Brown” this past week – and did he leave a great impression or what (as is evident by the continual climb in listeners)?

Guess is extremely knowledgeable, focused and career-driven. Unapologetically so. But more than that, he’s a believer in “giving back” even to the point of volunteering his (valuable) time (my words, not his) in an effort to educate others in the process of bringing their stories to life.

This man’s journey from ‘Dangerous Minds territory’ to where he is today is nothing short of astounding.

Actor Brian Anthony Wilson was my first interview in 2012. What a great way to start off the year!

I know, I know: it’s been quite awhile. You can thank my sister…I call her “BomnBomn.” She was all “…so what’s up with your blog? You need to get back on that,” and all that stuff. Hence, here I am.

But more than that, I realized she was absolutely RIGHT (and now she’ll be absolutely insufferable). At any rate, since the year recently started – and I’m only at TWO radio interviews for 2012, I thought I’d start here and do a better job of staying on track.

The fact that I’m watching the film “Limitless” for the 4th time has absolutely nothing to do with it. The fact that actor BRIAN ANTHONY WILSON, who plays the detective in the film, was my very first interview in 2012 has EVERYTHING to do with it. As I watch the film, I’m recalling some of the great moments of the interview. I’m laughing out loud now because I’m thinking of the “bootleg” comment Wilson made in the interview. (You can’t miss it. Promise. I totally lost it.)

It was another great interview with a man who is both gracious and humble…nothing like the character in the film. In fact, he’s such a humble man that HE called ME the following day to apologize for ‘taking over the interview’ and talking too much! (Is he kidding? That’s the perfect interview from my standpoint…and I told him so.)

You can hear the January 2nd interview in its entirety right here. Enjoy!

All the best,

~ Juice!

PS: Be on the lookout for the recap of my recent interview with writer, producer, director Hilliard Guess!

One of the pleasant surprises I had when I interviewed Chaysen “Stylefreer” Beacham is that he’s a corporate chef by day. I don’t know about you, but I just didn’t see that one coming. Seriously!

But there were other surprises too. Like the reason behind the change in his moniker. He recently changed his name to reflect a new attitude, so he nixed Beacham and replaced it with Stylefreer. Why? Because the new name reminds him that he has no limitations (creatively speaking); for SF (Stylefreer) there are no boundaries.

It’s amazing that he’s just early 20’s and yet his mentality is rather sophisticated. But listen and decide for yourself…don’t take my word for it.

At any rate, Chaysen “Stylefreer” Beacham is a young man who’s head is on straight…to the top.

Corey L. Branch is NOT like most men – at all! He talks freely and openly about a lot of things: mainly his own experience of having a vasectomy. And then he even went so far as to write about it – and appear in the short film version of “Snipped,” which documents a man’s “traumatic experience” (yeah, right!) of this minor procedure.

That’s one of the reasons I wanted to interview Branch: his brutal honesty. He’s a tactful yet no-holds-barred kinda guy…just the kind who will prosper in that land of the business of the show – Hollywood.

It was a great interview – and I’m looking forward to what’s coming down the pike for him…and something IS coming down that pike.

All the best / all the time ~ Juice

While he’s filled with confidence, he’s not at all arrogant. In fact, he seems to find something positive to say about others.

I had a blast “kickin’ it” with motivational coach/author Sallie Felton on Tuesday. She is NOT at all what I had expected. I was thinking of a rather demure, understated “Now, now little Johnny,” kind of ‘coach’ – you know the ones I mean.

Sallie Felton is NONE of those. She’s a firecracker! She tells it like it is (nicely, I might add). Sallie is that type of person that I just can’t see anyone getting annoyed at. She seems to be the type of person you would thank for making you bawl your eyes out. (I mean that as a compliment, Sallie. Really. I do.)

Point is: this interview was a real eye-opener. One that I’m guessing a LOT of people could use over and over again for a self-examination of where they’re going in their own lives. In fact, consider it my gift to you: here. Download it and keep the link.

Listen intently. You’re bound to pick up a few good life tips…and a whole lot more.

…and don’t say I never gave you anything.

~ All the best…and then some…”Juice”

Teri Johnson is producer and co-host of Travelista, an online travel series seen around the world. She was my guest on this past Monday’s segment of “Livin’ the Dream! with JBlair Brown.”

She’s a woman of many talents. In fact, when I first contacted Teri to be on the show, it was due her acting skills (she played a key role in 2008′s Jury of Our Peers). At that time, Teri told me that, although she is considered an actress, she is now more focused on the travel show and her behind-the-scene responsibilities.

She’s absolutely right! An interview solely based on her acting “chops” would be a great disservice to her; she’s much more than that. She’s sophisticated, intelligent, beautiful.

Teri Johnson is all those things a true jetsetter should be.

Truly, “Juice”

When I first started this blog my idea was to ‘play around’ a little bit with the WordPress format, build a ‘sorta’ brand for my radio show (which was just a half-baked idea at best) and just have some fun along the way.

Then something happened. I don’t know when, or even how, but it did. I invited author Dwayne Hunter onto my show for an interview after the release of his book From One Thoughtless Act, which tells his true-life account of 28 years of incarceration courtesy of the North Carolina penal system. It was his first interview and my first as an interviewer, which is obvious by the lack of audio quality – didn’t know WHAT I was doing.

Anyway, after that show I realized I had something on my hands. So I started inviting more authors to my Tuesday evening show (Cathleen Williams, Betty Jo Tucker, Jonathan Maxwell, etc.).

…and that’s when things began to get interesting…

more on my “Oh-my-goodness!-However-did-I-get-on-the-grid” saga at some point in the future…

The interview went off without a hitch. As I suspected, the convo was just as it’s been over the past few weeks: two people sharing ideas/concepts and just being ‘us.’

It was great. At one point I’d actually forgotten that I was holding an interview with Davan Holt, a screenwriter and director from NC.

In fact, I almost “hit a button” that would have disconnected the whole interview from its LIVE status. (For those of you who don’t know: “Hit a button” is a term I use that makes my family members cringe. It’s an indication that I’ve all but demolished the DVR, DVD, hi-def TV…or whatever else was in operation before I ‘hit a button.’ To put it simply: it ain’t good.)

But back to my original post: Holt is probably one of the most laid-back, down-to-earth people on the planet. Unassuming but confident, humble but skilled, he is the prime example of one who never gives up, never surrenders.

He told us how he came upon the entertainment industry (learned the craft of cameraman in the service); how he decided to create his own first film “Jury of Our Peers” (because he couldn’t find the backing to hire someone else to do it); and what’s in the works for the future (“Jury…” out on MyPortalTV.com beginning today; THREE more films in development, with one beginning casting in June).

The man is MAD busy!

But still he keeps his cool…as laid-back as ever. You’ll realize what I mean as you listen to the archived program here.

Enjoy!
